Wise Words from Dr Martin Luther King Jnr

If you can’t fly then run,
if you can’t run then walk,
if you can’t walk then crawl,
but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

― Martin Luther King Jr.

Dalai Lama Speaks (sense)

We are driven by self-interest, it’s necessary to survive. But we need wise self-interest that is generous and co-operative, taking others’ interests into account. Co-operation comes from friendship, friendship comes from trust, and trust comes from kind-heartedness. Once you have a genuine sense of concern for others, there’s no room for cheating, bullying or exploitation.

More from Albert

The Town Mitten

The Meenister’s Log

I once was at a particular tutorial during university days, when the N.T. lecturer was waxing lyrical about the Passion.

“Can you picture it, gentlemen, there He is being crucified on the town midden”

American exchange student interrupts: “Excuse me, did you say ‘mitten’?”  (try saying it in a faux American accent and it sounds like ‘m’in)

“yes”

“like as in gloves with no fingers?”

(“midden” is a Scots word for rubbish heap – or, for our American friends, “Garbage Pile”)

ABC

Geoffrey Fisher, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who crowned the present Queen, said this to Harold Macmillan about the possibility of Michael Ramsey succeeding him as ABC:

“I have come to give you some advice about my successor. Whoever you choose, under no account must it be Michael Ramsey, the Archbishop of York. Dr Ramsey is a theologian, a scholar and a man of prayer. Therefore, he is entirely unsuitable as Archbishop of Canterbury.”
