Nothing can hold back the Dawn

I heard of a Minister on pilgrimage to the Holy Land who went to the Garden of Gethsemane for an all-night vigil the night before Easter.

It was a long dark night. He was weary and the pitch blackness was never ending.

His guide, however, said to him reassuringly, “Don’t worry – you can’t hold back the dawn”

To pass the time, the clergyman opened his Bible but could barely make out the print in the darkness.

Then… just as he reached the story of the Empty Tomb, dawn broke dramatically, light filling the whole place and illuminating the narrative in a new and wonderful way for him.

He understood the Resurrection with a new clarity as he recalled the words of the Guide, “You can’t hold back the dawn!”

“The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has never put it out”
