The Admiral and the Bishop

The meenister’s Log

The two of them had been rivals since they went to Eton. One had been captain of the cricket team; the other head prefect.

Both hated each other, and over the years the enmity never diminished even although they took separate career paths. One entered the Church; the other the Royal Navy.

Many years passed the Churchman – now a Bishop – spotted his rival – now an Admiral, resplendent in his uniform, at a London railway station.

The Bishop went up to the Admiral and said “Excuse me, Porter, when is the next train to Edinburgh?”

The Admiral recognised his old foe, now rotund in his belted cassock.

“I don’t know, madam, but in your condition, I don’t think you should be travelling anywhere
