Thine be the Glory!

Sky Pilot

The tune of Thine Be the Glory was written by Handel in 1747, intended for use in Handel’s Joshua oratorio however when it was played, it was popular enough that Handel added it to Judas Maccabaeus.

In 1884, Edmond L. Bundry used Handel’s tune and wrote words for them, which he titled “A Toi la Gloire.” It is reported that he was inspired to write it after the death of his first wife, Marie de Vayenborg in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was later published in French hymn book, Chants Evangéliques.

The hymn was first translated from French into English by Richard B. Hoyle in 1923.[1] He was commissioned to translate the hymn by the World Student Christian Federation after Bundy granted the W S C D permission  to reproduce it from the French version.

À toi la victoire pour l’éternité!

Creationism

from Huff Post:

Paxo, the great tormentor, has faced down some formidable opponents during his tenure as Newsnight’s chief interrogator. John Lewis from Christian Education Europe is not likely to go down as one of them.

Appearing on Monday on a segment on creationism being taught in schools, the somewhat baffled apologist found himself toyed with then dismissed by the Newsnight stalwart, particularly after Lewis tried to imply some bias in the BBC video suggesting a lack of education for those that believe in Adam and Eve.

Professor Alice Roberts, President of the Association of Science Education, argued on the side of sanity reason. Watch Paxo’s exasperation when Lewis refuses to answer how long it took God to make the world.

Creation

Running about three and a half minutes, “Creation” unfolds as time-lapse CGI animation sequence that plays out a (mostly) scientifically-accurate version of The Big Bang, the formation of Earth and evolution of life from single-celled organisms to early sea creatures to all variety of Earthly animals as Crowe’s Noah recites a version of the Biblical “seven days” creation story – implying that one is metaphor for the other. Adam & Eve, The Serpent and Eden appear only at the end, looking more surreal and alien than almost anything else in the film.
